Are medals for winning or are they for giving away to make people feel good?
Would more “diverse” Academy Membership mean bias against talent and for Minorities?
Allegation against the WHITES is voting for WHITES. So let’s strip Casablanca, The Godfather and every Oscar winner of their Award because supposed greatest films of all time are not really great, but White bias for White? And while at it let’s examine WHO and WHAT they deprived? Shall we?
Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington, Kurosawa and Ray should be taken off their vaunted perch. That they are part of Cinema History by being Masters of their Craft in a fiercely competitive and short term careers, should be taken as them being beneficiaries of Condescending patronage, and not the best of the year and years when they WON?
Accusing Whites of discrimination does not mean Minority made excellence is denied success in America – or Cinema, Sports, Music would be monochromatic. SURE SELECTION COMMITTEES SHOULD BE MADE OF QUALIFIED PEOPLE ADEQUATELY REPRESENTING AUDIENCE PERCENTAGE. But in a high cost high risk industry awards go to those who make profitable product. Giving it away doesn’t make it Great, just as NOT GIVING IT TO THE BEST is not Great.
Oprah, Snoop Dogg, Spike Lee won by winning in race for audience dollars and hearts. They were not given anything .
Being a Minority I too should cheer appeasement of entitlement so I might get a reward for being born where I was.
